Māori Candidates Hui
Ahead of the general election, Public Service Association Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi is holding hui for each of the Māori Electorates o te motu and has invited the local candidates to attend and speak to PSA members and the local community.
The five main political parties will be invited to provide a representative for our hui. Candidates will be invited to address the hui and take questions from those attending.
We want to keep the focus of the hui on our kaupapa for the general election which are:
- policies to support Māori development
- supporting Māori employment aspirations (higher wage economy, sustainable and decent work, free from bias, discrimination, employing Māori and local communities)
- supporting local communities to grow sustainable businesses and employment
- targeted education programmes to keep rangatahi at school with support to enable tauira to progress to tertiary education, trade training or alternative training
- sustainable housing with Māori school leavers to be supported to enter the trades
- initiatives to reduce carbon emissions
